This third chapter in our series of documentary films about the Eastern Shore, produced in partnership with Academy Award-nominated filmmaker James Spione, explores the lives of the last independent fishermen to work the waters of the Atlantic and the Chesapeake Bay.

Spione’s intimate first-person stories told in the voices of the hardy seamen who have made their life’s work fishing, crabbing, and oystering off Virginia’s wild coast, speak to us of the deeply personal challenges and triumphs that define their existences on the water.

Despite their hardships and an uncertain future, our documentary captures the fierce pride and enduring optimism of the Eastern Shore’s watermen.
