Coffee Hour Speaker - Tom Davidson

$0.00

Speaker: Tom Davidson
Friday, December 12th
10:30 a.m.
Cost: FREE

We invite you and your friends to join us for our upcoming Coffee Hour Lecture Series this Friday, December 12th, at 10:30 AM at the Barrier Islands Center. Our featured speaker is Tom Davidson, Chief Curator at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation, noted anthropologist, and co-author of Eastern Shore Indians of Virginia and Maryland. Tom will present a fascinating lecture entitled “The Rise and Fall of Askiminikansen, an Eastern Shore Indian Town.”

During the Colonial era, the governments of Virginia and Maryland recognized over a dozen Indian towns on the Eastern Shore to protect their lands from English settlers. Askiminikansen was the largest of these Indian towns, and its story—from creation to destruction by settler encroachment—offers an important, often overlooked perspective on Eastern Shore history. This lecture presents a unique opportunity to learn more about this vital chapter in our region’s past.

Come and connect with fellow history enthusiasts during the event. Don’t miss this engaging session. We hope to see you there!
