Barrier Islands Center's Hog Island by Curtis Badger

$20.00

Hog Island was first settled shortly after the American Revolution. The island was populated by a hardy group of families whose lives centered upon the island's natural resources and waters. They fished in the summer and gathered oysters, and hunted waterfowl during the winter. There have been no permanent residents on Hog Island for generations, but writer Curtis J. Badger explores what life was like in a time long ago. Many of the photographs in the book were taken by Sereita Phillips, a woman who was deaf and could not speak but who eloquently captured the island's spirit with her camera a century ago.
